Animation Workshop 3 - Final Cut Out Animation
As soon as we started the third animation workshop, we captured each of our frames using a digital camera and Dragon frame. It was a lengthly process, we had to keep moving the characters and sets ever so slightly in order to capture as many frames as possible so that our animation would be a slightly longer length.
This was an enjoyable aspect of the creative process, we cut each prop and character into separate pieces so it would be easier to move them around. We enjoyed making up each little scene, from outside the restaurant, to inside and then back outside again. We tried to keep it as simple as we could so that it wouldn't need to be edited too much. I haven't made many animations before so wasn't very confident about the editing process.
The final stage was to edit the speed if needed and add sound effects. We did slow the animation down in places we felt it needed to be slower such as when the woman is walking into the restaurant. We speeded up the part where the man exits the restaurant because we thought it would create a humorous element especially as we added a drum and bass style sound effect.
The other sound effects are sweet and pleasant to listen to, I think they suit the nature of the animation as it quite sugar sweet. We downloaded the sound effects from a free sound effects website.
Below is our final animation. I am pleased with how it turned out. It shows a clear scenario and I think the combination of coloured pencil and pen drawings with bright patterned collage from magazines creates an interesting and visually exciting contrast.
I think the only parts of the animation that could be improved are the entrance and exit scenes, the door could be made to actually open. This would help to prolong the animation length as well as create a more flowing movement between each scene.
