Group Presentation Tutorial 1 - Discussing ideas and concepts

I chose to create a group with two people in the class I know fairly well, I knew this would make the task easier because we know we can trust each other to get things done. We chose to name our group 'Acorn' because one of the group members had an acorn design on her notebook and we thought it was quite a unique name. I also feel it suits the area we are researching and presenting about, freelance illustrators do tend to be quite unique.

After being briefed on the group project for this unit, we discussed which field of Illustration we were most interested in as a group. We chose 'Freelance Illustration' because none of us really knew much about working as a freelance illustrator so felt this task would help us to gain more knowledge about the area, building up interviews with professionals or refer to themselves as freelance creatives and also try to work as effectively as we could in a small group of three.

We decided to create a mind map, writing down our initial ideas and thoughts. The mind map consists of freelance illustrator's names and contact details, we could then choose to contact one or a couple each. We also wrote down some questions we had thought of ourselves.

I wrote some explanation for what we planned to do. This included the fact that our questions could be personally written with the particular illustrator in mind, tailoring to their style of work e.g. commenting on their particular style or asking about a specific illustration/artwork they have created.
Our answers will be written up on our personal blogs, both in blog posts and mentioned in our written reports so the freelance illustrator will have more public exposure.

I also wrote, we propose to travel to the freelance illustrator making the effort to get the answers we desire. We could try to meet them in their studio (if they have one) to gain an insight into the location in which they create their work, if they can allow this.

We decided shortly after this first tutorial which illustrators each of us would contact, after researching in the library to ensure we had accurate contact details. We made this choice very soon after our first discussion because we wanted to ensure we would actually get some replies as well as ensuring we had adequate time to put the powerpoint presentation together and decide what we wanted to say when presenting to the class.
